I Love/Hate NY
It’s been a while, I know. Here’s a photo I took today while trying to recover my car from the place where NYPD towed it.

I know that I owe a lot of backblogging … and I’ll try and update soon. I’m really busy. I’ve been working as a "Project Pilot" which is really fun, and pretty demanding. So, I’ll try over the next week to blog:
- Wedding Pictures
- The Saga of the Broken Arm (I’m officially on flying status as of yesterday!)
- The Story of My Job (Being a project pilot is really fun, challenging, interesting and stressful.)
- Maybe I’ll even complain about how unfair it was for NYPD to tow my car away this morning. (Towing: $205; Parking Ticket: $105; Having car to walk dogs in NYC parks: Priceless).
While you wait for something visual and interesting, I’ll just tell you that the above picture was taken in "DUMBO" which is the neighborhood Down Under the Manhattan Bridge. A correct abbreviation would be D.U.M.B., but I guess the people who named it thought that was a dumb name. I had just gotten off the F train and was trying to find the Brooklyn Navy Yard where they tow cars in Brooklyn and I saw this view, complete with shoes hanging from the wire.
I was pretty mad about the whole towing thing and was about to start an "I Hate NY" campaign, but after a while I decided I just have to resign myself to the injustice of NYC, instead of grumbling like the Isaelites. Maybe I could even remember why we feel called to this city.
Since I had just rescued my car, I decided I needed to do something fun in the nice weather today, so I took the dogs to Floyd Bennet Field. It’s part of Gateway National Recreation Area along the entry to the NY harbor. I found a nice deserted beach on Jamaica Bay and threw sticks, shells and rocks into the water until the dogs got tired. It was nice to remember that there are a lot of really nice things about living in NY. On the way back, I took Belt Parkway which just follows the edge of the water all the way around Brooklyn. I got to drive under the Varrazano Narrows Bridge which is beautiful. Just as I was thinking that I’d been having a very relaxing outing, I got stuck in traffic for 30 minutes. Ahhh, the Big Apple.
