More Nerd Scores

July 31st, 2005

We had a couple more friends take the nerd quiz. See if you can guess which person got which score. The people:

Elaine:

Richard:

The scores:

I am nerdier than 18% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

I am nerdier than 11% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

Both had quotes of “Not nerdy, but then again maybe not all that cool either.”

Sweet Water

July 25th, 2005

Peter and I took the dogs to the falls at Sweetwater Creek State Park. We hiked the ridge trail which takes about 45 minutes each way and is about 1.26 miles, according to Google Earth.

Peter found a tortoise on the way to the falls.

It was scared. At first he was going to give it to his friends who have three young boys, but then he thought that it might like its natural surroundings better.

Upon reaching the falls, we jumped in.

Peter had to wear one of my old sneakers and one old sandal because I couldn’t find a pair of anything old for him to wear. He was a good sport about it.

The dogs were very happy swimming … except when Peter tried to get Marley to pull him by holding on to her tail!

Sam swam across the river upstream from the falls …

… and ended up getting rescued by Peter!

Even after swimming for a while, the dogs were still totally hot. They didn’t even shake when they got out of the water.

Peter took some pictures of me swimming with the doggies…

Sam again ventured across the falls and even waded across them for a while.

Marley joined her, but needed a breather before getting out of the water…

Unfortunately, the memory on the camera got filled up before Peter could capture Sam going over the falls in a very exciting and scary way! Marley ended up getting too close to the top and she went over too! When they returned to the top of the falls where we were, they were both limping a little. It was sad, but also hilarious!

I figured that if the dogs can do it, so can I!

It only hurt a little, well worth the bruises I sustained.

To Nerd or Not To Nerd…

July 16th, 2005

Dear friends,

Hello everyone, this is Elizabeth and you are reading my very first BLOIG! I mean, blog. Obviously I do not do this very often. In fact I never do…until tonight. David and I wanted to share something very meaningful with you, that is at the core of our very identities…who we ARE. (Picture earnest expression here…) It is our nerd scores. This test, while not yielding very surprisng results, was fun to take and gave us at least 5 minutes of Saturday night fun (attesting to some element of nerdiness, to be sure!). I highly recommend it…well, I mildly recommend it. Those of you who, like my husband, acheive a nice high nerd score, will enjoy it very much. To the others, like me, you can choose either mystification or smug satisfaction that you had no idea what some of the questions were getting at. Irregardless, here are our scores:

David

I am nerdier than 75% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!
“Wow, it takes a lot of hard nerdy practice to reach this level.”

Elizabeth

I am nerdier than 4% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!
“Definitely not nerdy, you are probably cool.”

psst–I really don’t despise nerds…look at who I married!!!

(By the way, a case study in the magnitude of the nerdiness difference between me and David–I wanted to bold the first two letters of “irregardless” to wink wink, nudge nudge to those of you liberal artists that will get that joke ((probably not the Supreme Nerds reading this blog )) but had to call in my IT guy for help with that. And if you think I knew how to paste those links here, you don’t know me very well (((and I just spent way too long making sure that my nesting parentheses were correct)))! I guess I’m a different kind of nerd; I did score a 4, after all…er,)

Thanks, All About Angie, for pointing us toward this profound experience.
We sincerely hope all you readers out there enjoy your own adventures in the world of Nerdom.

After the rain

July 12th, 2005

Hurricane / Tropical Storm / Tropical Depression Dennis left us with a lot of rain:

For you non-graph readers that shows about 11 inches of rain from 6 pm on Saturday to 6 am on Monday. It actually rained a lot more on Monday, I think the rain gauge broke or something.

Sam and Marley needed some exercise when the rain finally stopped. So we went out to the kudzu patch on our street.

Sam enjoyed just running around, but Marley needed a special outlet: the game of Catahoula Leopard Rock. Here’s how it’s played: the master throws a small rock in the air and the dog does marvellous feats of acrobatic wonder trying to catch said rocks.
